Aaron Rodgers’ New Contract Could Be ‘Unique’

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers seems ready to be the man again. I know that’s probably what goes through his head every year, but I can’t remember the last time I read something from Rodgers where you can tell he’s at total peace. NBC Sports Peter King did a great job capturing that in his piece that started with the GOAT. The contract was discussed with King and Rodgers where the Packers quarterback put on the table that something unique could be in the works for him and the team. Could we being seeing something out of the ordinary from Rodgers in the near future?

We overuse in the SnoTap offices, but Rodgers’ ass is in the jackpot. He knows the leverage he has with the team is absolutely none. The team could let him play out his contract until the age of 37 then franchise tag him at 38, and who knows where he is at age 39. That’s a legitimate possibility. Rodgers sees that and knows the only way for him to get a couple years of security is do a deal that would be team-friendly that’s not going to blow up the cap for Green Bay.
It will be interesting to see what the Packers do from here. They want to keep Rodgers happy obviously, but they also want to create some freedom for themselves. My guess is they’ll get something done next offseason and with the quarterback trying to work with the team more often.
