Are The Packers Broken or Can They Be Fixed?
Green Bay Packers are a mess. They’re your friend who loves drama and find him or herself drunk off their ass at 1 am trying to start a fight with everyone. That friend also has gossip and spreads it around to whomever will listen. Tyler Dunne of Bleacher Report wrote the piece that puts the final cherry on top of the shit sundae that was the relationship between Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers. To say it was ugly is an understatement. To say anyone comes out ahead couldn’t be more wrong. Packers are a broken franchise at the moment. Can Green Bay pick themselves up after suffering a rock bottom moment?
Matt LaFleur is not a savior. He is not coming in to save the Packers. Is he coming into a messier situation than maybe others perceived in the media? Absolutely. He is Donald Glover in Community bringing in pizzas to an apartment only to reason that the apartment is on fire. LaFleur knows that a culture change is needed, and egos will need to be left at the door. He does not have to show off his skills and knowledge to Aaron Rodgers but it’s clear from Dunne, this guy just wants his coach to talk to him about football. LaFleur is not McCarthy from a background perspective. He played quarterback in college and is in the same age range as Rodgers. Part of me thinks that will matters to the veteran quarterback who keeps seeing his friends retire from the game.
As for Rodgers, Mark Murphy had the blistering statement to Aaron “Don’t be a problem”. Rodgers could cause havoc for the new guy, but a different approach is probably the right move. He needs to embrace LaFleur’s offense that will be more run-focused. Packers quarterback cannot defy his coach especially early on in the season. With this article, all eyes will be on him to start the year. If he does his own thing early on, this could be Round II. Green Bay has set Rodgers up with a staff that wants to work together and will make sure he is contained on the football field. Luke Getsy and Nathaniel Hackett were both great additions to help rebuild the Packers quarterback. Rodgers should love the fact LaFleur is watching so much tap eon him to be ready for the season.
It is good to see Mark Murphy finally awoke from his slumber. Packers chairman lined his fucking pockets with the Titletown District and wants everyone to fellate him for making a high-class mini-mall. He let things run amok, and this franchise fractured because of it. Murphy needs to keep focusing on the football versus worrying about what’s the next thing to go inside Titletown?
I will leave you with this from Batman Begins… “Why do we fall? To pick ourselves back up again.” It is time. It might be late, but it’s about fucking time.
Charlie.
