Atlanta’s Lengthy Delay Highlights MLB’s Problem Again
The horse is already dead when it comes to Milwaukee Brewers-Chicago Cubs delay on Saturday afternoon. That said, it’s worth pointing out that the problem of giving the home team an advantage continues to be an issue. Last night, Atlanta Braves beat Pittsburgh Pirates at 1:52 AM due to a lengthy delay. Pirates held a lead going into the delay and would have won the game with baseball rules being the way they are. Pittsburgh got the short end of the stick here.
Atlanta waited out the delay for over three hours. Yes, three hours on a Tuesday in May. This game did not have current playoff implications, or the team they were playing was a West Coast squad that doesn’t come around Atlanta very often. It’s ridiculous that Braves got to control the entire process. If the score was flipped and Braves led 3-2, the game would have been over six, and that’s why it feels wrong the home team gets to have all of the control.
Pittsburgh and Atlanta meet again tonight with hopefully better weather.
