Badgers Add Transfer & Prepare for Post-Happ Era

Wisconsin Badgers are not usually in the business of adding transfers. It’s something Wisconsin didn’t do under Bo Ryan, but Greg Gard previously showed interest in transfer players that made sense. Badgers did reel one in yesterday by adding Micah Potter, a transfer from Ohio State. It’s interesting and good of Ohio State’s coach Chris Holtmann that he let Potter keep his options open to the Big Ten. Potter will be eligible to play half of next season and potentially the entire 2019-2020 year. That would be huge considering the Badgers have a massive void to fill with Ethan Happ leaving school after a long eight years (I joke but really). Badgers will need all the help they can get from their team next season.

Potter is a classic stretch four in today’s world of basketball. He does have good size at 6’9 and 240 but the defensive game is where he lacks some skill. Potter getting to go up against Happ on scout team for half the year will help immensely. Any time you can get a transfer in and starting with him early, they can pick up right away to start the season. The offensive skills are there for Potter though. He can shoot the basketball, and all of the sudden, Wisconsin could have themselves a starting five where all of the players could be three-point specialists. To have a big man that can shoot outside helps the offense so much because it opens up the post for cuts and drives to the hoop.

Badgers seem to have landed a nice to piece to help out in the post-Happ era. They’re going to need a lot of help next season to replace what Happ does on a night to night basis, but it seems they’re off to an encouraging start.
