Breeland’s Departure Hurts Packers Secondary
Last week, I discussed how the Green Bay Packers needed to bring back Bashaud Breeland to the roster. Much of it had to do with the young secondary and a solid insurance policy if Kevin King caught the injury bug yet again. Breeland is not returning to the team, rather, he will be heading to Kansas City on an incentive-laden one-year deal worth five million dollars. While that’s an affordable price that Green Bay could likely pay, Breeland has an opportunity to be a starter in Kansas City.

The former Redskins corner will likely move back to the outside corner. He played most of his snaps, prior to last season. That could have influenced things as well. Green Bay will need to think through what their secondary looks like without him. They have talented young players, Tramon Williams and a raw yet talented Tony Brown. That sounds very 2015 to me. They’re still missing a safety as well. Packers need to make a small move to shore up some of their concerns in the defensive backfield.
The NFL Draft is likely not the place for Green Bay to be looking for talent. The scouts are saying about this year’s cornerbacks is they’re either too slow or the ones that are burners do not have much talent. Greedy Williams from LSU is a name that some may bring up for the 12th pick, but there are better players available at that spot.
