BrewCap: Brewers Capitalize on Cubs’ Heinous Night

Some nights at the ballpark, it isn’t a day for winning. Case in point, the Chicago Cubs at Miller Park last night. Chicago gave up runs on errors, passed balls, hit batsman and almost everything under the sun. Brewers scored 11 runs without a home run. It’s the first time Milwaukee had not homered since a defeat versus Pittsburgh two weeks ago. Milwaukee has won six of their last seven games, and they’ve been nearly flawless in the last two weeks. Brewers are getting hot at the right time.
Player of the Game: Wade Miley – Can we all write an apology to Wade Miley? Every time, you think this dude is going to struggle and give up homers again, he puts his nuts on the table and goes after it. Miley went six innings allowing only three hits and striking out five batters. Miley continues to be one of the shining stars for the Brewers’ starting pitching staff. Miley’s ERA is a sparkling 2.12 for the season. Derek Johnson for President.
Silver Star: Orlando Arcia – Even though he had a costly strikeout early, Orlando Arcia is playing very good baseball. He had three hits tonight and scored all three times he got on base. Arcia has his average up to .220. That’s the highest number it’s been since May 11th. Arcia is proving to be a vital player a part of the equation for Milwaukee. He’s been much better in the shared time role.
Honorable Mention: Lorenzo Cain – How about Lorenzo Cain? He had one hit today. A double that he scored on, but he walked four times as well. Cain’s OBP is up past .400 this season. Every pitcher is in for a fight with Cain. He has a great eye and does a great job getting on base for Milwaukee. Cain relishes the opportunity to be that guy for the Brewers.
Next up
Brewers go for the sweep of the Cubs. Milwaukee swept Chicago last September at Wrigley Field before falling apart the week after at Miller Park (Let’s hope the opposite is different). The last time Milwaukee swept Chicago at Miller Park was April 2013. Tomorrow, Jhouyls Chacin faces off against Jose Quintana. These two met a month ago, and Milwaukee finally got to Quintana. Can they do it again? We’ll see and I’ll be in the building.
Charlie.
