BrewCap: Brewers Hunting NL Central Crown

Milwaukee Brewers knew the significance of last night’s Brewers-Cubs game. If the Brewers won, they would be one game back from the National League Central race and have homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. If they lost, the attention would focus on the Wild Card where the Brewers have a comfortable 2.5 game lead on St. Louis. Brewers won the first series at Wrigley Field since late May. This team is not afraid and ready to win.
Player of the Game: Curtis Granderson – If you were to tell me, Curtis Granderson is a Brewer, and he contributed to their push for the NL Central crown, I’d be dumbfounded. Granderson has been great for the Crew with five hits in his eight at bats. He had three hits last night including a huge solo homer in the ninth to give Milwaukee an insurance run.
Silver Star: Lorenzo Cain – Some people are mentioning the fact Lorenzo Cain should be in the MVP race. I don’t disagree with them. Cain might not have the old-school baseball numbers to back it up, but he has the advanced metrics to do that for him. He leads the National League in WAR, he carries an OBP of .400+, he’s been red hot for the month of September (Not that it matters, but I do think September gets factored) and should win a Gold Glove in centerfield. He’s worth a few votes.
Honorable Mention: Josh Hader – Have a series, Josh Hader. Craig Counsell brought him in to face Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Ben Zobrist. Hader struck out Bryant. Then he did the same damn thing to Rizzo. Zobrist ended up getting a hit which was great because Hader struck out Javy Baez. He pitched three innings and had nine strikeouts with 10 batters faced. The dude is incredible.
Next up: Gio Gonzalez heads to hill again to face off against Pittsburgh. This is a different Pirates team than the one we saw a couple weeks ago. David Freese is gone. Gregor Polanco is out for the year with shoulder and knee injuries. Chris Archer goes for Pittsburgh. He struggled his first time at Miller Park as the Brewers got to him for six runs.
