Milwaukee Brewers are slow starters. Until Monday night, Brewers had only had two games all season where they scored first in a game. Last night was the third game. Milwaukee jumped on Trevor Bauer early in this game, and they kept the pressure on all night long. Brewers were victorious, 4-2 breaking their four-game losing streak. It was a refreshing win for the Brewers and a welcomed change when you consider they jumped out early to a lead, much more aggressive on the basepaths, and played a clean game as Brett Anderson said after the game.

Player of the Game: Justin Smoak – What a hot streak the Smoak Monster is on. He gets streaky from time to time, and this could be a little run for Smoak. He hit a home run and drove in another run with a double for his second straight game with two hits. Smoak is starting to feel it at the plate which could be a welcomed sign for the Brewers moving forward in this season.

Honorable Mention: Omar Narvaez – Another guy who the Brewers have been begging to get warm found his stroke the last couple of days as well. Narvaez had a double and a home run in his second straight multi-hit game. If the Brewers can get Narvaez and Smoak both going together, David Stearns starts to paint his masterpiece and we all look foolish.

One thing to discuss: Brett Anderson is rounding into form – Good couple of games from Brett Anderson. He pitched well in Minnesota last week in a Brewers’ victory then did the same thing against Cincinnati. Anderson moved past Josh Lindblom as guys I can trust on the mound. We’ll see how long that lasts.

One thing to remember: This is one game. I hate to be a Debbie downer, but let’s face facts, it’s one game versus the larger sample. Maybe this is the start of the turnaround and the Pirates sweep will be at the beginning of the championship tape.

Next up: Can Brandon Woodruff get some support from his batters?! Woodruff gets the ball for Milwaukee. He was okay against Cincinnati in the only game that featured run support for him. Luis Castillo goes for Cincinnati. Castillo has started three times away from home and all of them have gone very bad. Castillo did not pitch well versus Milwaukee last season. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.
