BrewCap: Crew Sticks to This Weekend’s Motto

Milwaukee Brewers welcomed the San Francisco Giants for the weekend after a strong series against the Chicago Cubs. Milwaukee’s motto should be ‘Take care of business.’ This is a team you should beat two out of three at least and continues to keep things rolling as they have in the past couple of weeks. Brewers did just that on Friday. They won 4-2 thanks to a big double from Jesus Aguilar, and Milwaukee is now 12-5 in their last 17 and now 1.5 games up on St. Louis.
Player of the Game: Jesus Aguilar – We haven’t seen many big moments from Zeus in the second half. It was almost expected that he would cool off, but Aguilar delivered one here. Two outs in the seventh inning, tied game and Aguilar serves up a two-run double to right field. Brewers didn’t need much more offensive help after that one.
Silver Star: Josh Hader – The kid had it rolling tonight. Hader came in for Anderson in the sixth inning and shut down the Giants. He struck out five of the six batters he faced in 35 pitches and no one got on base against him. We haven’t seen the elite stuff from Hader in awhile, and it appears that Craig Counsell’s plan of the one to two games per series is working out just fine.
Honorable Mention: Ryan Braun – Braunie hit his 15th homer of the year. There’s an outside shot he can get to 20 homers, which would be pretty awesome for him. He slugged one in the first off Derek Holland and spooked the Giants moving forward. They walked Braun three times including twice of the intentional variety. Jonathan Schoop had a very rough game making San Francisco pay.
Next up: Gio Gonzalez makes his Brewers’ debut on Saturday night at Miller Park. He will face a Giants team that’s struggling of late losers of their last six. Chris Stratton gets the ball for San Francisco. Stratton has been a wreck against lefties this year, so, expect a lefty-filled lineup on Saturday night.
