BrewCap: Crew’s NYC Bounce Back
Milwaukee Brewers were in a danger zone of sorts heading into Wednesday game against New York Mets. They lost their last two games and staring down Jacob deGrom that night then Clayton Kershaw looming in the wings on Friday at Miller Park. It didn’t look like Brewers could get rolling again, but they did anyway with two big wins for Crew to keep their first place standing. Here were some takeaways from the last two games.
Eric Thames homers and gets drug tested again – My computer wasn’t working this morning so I couldn’t provide the venom towards Major League Baseball. Thames has his first good game in weeks, and the league fucking tests him. Something needs to be done by the union or don’t have one.
Chase Anderson revival – Remember when we talked about the road ending for Chase Anderson after a few bad starts? Not so fast. Anderson went seven innings with seven strikeouts only allowing three hits. Anderson has been untouchable for his last two starts. He must know the team could look elsewhere and wants to make this case.
RISP is still an issue – Even though Milwaukee won these two games, they could have won Tuesday if they drove the runners in. On Thursday, they left nine in scoring position. They need a little more focus on the plate looking for singles and not big flys when they’re at the plate.
Eric Sogard might be good? – Here’s the thing about Sogard. I think Milwaukee should still use him like they are currently. I don’t think he should take Jonathan Villar’s spot, but he deserves more looks against lefties. They would be foolish not to put him versus Kershaw tonight given how good he’s been against the left-handed bat even he’s a lefty.
Next up: A big three-game series with a potential playoff opponent in Los Angeles Dodgers. As we’ve mentioned, Kershaw tonight against Jimmy Nelson. Brewers will look to continue their dominance against ace pitchers. Kershaw was very bad last time out against Chicago Cubs. Jimmy Nelson goes for Milwaukee and he’ll look to duplicate what he did on Sunday.
