BrewCap: Davis Dazzles as Brewers Sweep Mets
Milwaukee Brewers looked to sweep the New York Mets on Sunday afternoon. Brewers were riding high after their 18 inning marathon victory versus this same team. Zach Davies made sure Milwaukee would win their third straight game. He looked like the ace of this pitching staff yet again, and Christian Yelich welcomed the team back in a big way. Brewers finished off New York with a 3-2 victory. They’re 5-2 on this current home stand with three games left to go versus Washington this upcoming week.
Player of the Game: Zach Davies – Ladies and gentleman, your ace of the 2019 Milwaukee Brewers. After Chase Anderson and Jhoulys Chacin took the role of ace for the last two years, it seems that Davies will be the next one. He pitched great going into the 8th inning with two runs allowed. Davies scattered six hits and stuck out five batters. It was the long effort that the Brewers needed from their starter.
Honorable Mention: Christian Yelich – Welcome back, Yeli. He comes back from injury and delivers a complete moonshot to right field. Yelich hit a two-run homer that followed Lorenzo Cain bringing in a run with a sac flay. Now, the bobblehead crowds are different, but the noise around Yelich when he stepped to the plate was awesome. Everyone watched. Everyone overreacted when he hit a fly ball. It is awesome.
Thing I liked: Pitching staff came together this weekend – Brewers could still have struggles with their pitching this week. I’m not naive to think that one good series means things are fixed. But Milwaukee did find some pieces that work that is a huge accomplishment. Starting pitching finally showed up for three straight games, and the bullpen held the leads. This is the best version of Brewers pitching.
Thing I didn’t like: Lorenzo Cain’s bruised hand – I’m sure he will be fine, but Cain took a pitch off the top of his hand. He looked in a great deal of pain, but it seems to be just a bruise as the x-rays were negative. My guess is Milwaukee goes with Ben Gamel tonight and check Cain’s hand on Tuesday. I am very glad that he did not break his hand there. It looked very scary.
Highlight of the Day: Triple decker for Yelich

Next up: Brewers face the Nationals for a three-game series starting tonight. Apparently, the Nats are still in Philadelphia and flying into Milwaukee this morning. That’s not typical and probably what you don’t want if you’re the road team. Nationals are currently 14-19 on the season. Max Schrezer goes for Washington to face Jhoulys Chacin.
