BrewCap: Game 162 Ends on the Highest of Notes

Milwaukee Brewers will have to play Game 163 at Wrigley Field. MLB will have tiebreakers for both the NL Central and NL West today. The losers will play in the Wild Card game the next night and the winners advance to the playoffs where they’ll get going on Thursday. Brewers did not have any worries in Game 162. In an ideal game where the Brewers scored 12 runs and the Tigers could not muster anything in a 12-0 thrashing. Brewers swept the Tigers for the first time since 1997. Milwaukee took care of business and left the dramatics for Monday afternoon.
Player of the Game: Jesus Aguilar – We’ve seen Zeus come on of late. He scuffled for a good part of the second half, but it appears he’s back in the groove a bit. I think it helps he’s batting after Ryan Braun. Aguilar feels less pressured. He hit his 35th home run of the season and drove in three runs. Aggy set the tone early with his RBI single and home run. You have to love that from Zeus. If he found his stroke again for October, look out.
Silver Star: Ryan Braun – Here’s the thing about Braun’s day. He had two hits including a double started a massive inning for the Brewers where they would score six runs in the inning. Braun pimped the double which was amazing in its own right, but Milwaukee finally broke open the game. That was so important to avoid all of the important Brewers’ relievers from being used yesterday. The last week of Braun has been something to marvel at.
Honorable Mention: Gio Gonzalez – Even though Gio did not have his best stuff, he did what he needed to do on Sunday. He pitched five scoreless innings. He was the first Brewers pitcher in awhile to do that for the team. Gonzalez needed to hold his water and did just that. Kudos should also be given out to the other parts of the Brewers pitching staff that kept things at zero for Detroit – Junior Guerra and Jordan Lyles. t
Next up: Here we go. The NL Central Division Championship game at Wrigley Field. Brewers have yet to name a starter, but it’s believed that Jhoulys Chacin will be going for Milwaukee. Interesting move to go Chacin knowing they could be playing tomorrow against Los Angeles or Colorado who both mash lefties and Wade Miley is likely next in line. Jose Quintana, noted Brewers Killer, goes for Chicago. It should be a very special day.
Charlie.
