BrewCap: Goldschmidt Continues His Reign of Terror
In the offseason, St. Louis Cardinals acquired Paul Goldschmidt. That was the worst news for Brewers fans. Goldschmidt has been amazing against the Milwaukee Brewers for his career especially at Miller Park. Lucky for him, he started his season there. Goldie made himself part of the Cardinals-Brewers rivalry with three home runs and five RBIs. He was the difference maker in the game considering he had five of the nine runs for St. Louis on Friday night. The good news is that Goldschmidt probably had his best game against the Brewers this season in Game 2.
Player of the Game: Paul Goldschmidt – My question for the Brewers pitcher is how have they not figured out Goldschmidt yet? Look, I know he is one of the best players in baseball, so, it might be tougher than most batters. But for three different pitchers to give up home runs to Goldschmidt is disappointing to say the least. Hopefully, Brewers coaching staff will work on ways to figure out how to pitch to him.
Honorable Mention: Ryan Braun – What a blast from Braunie in the early part of this game. Brewers trailed by three early on in this game, and Milwaukee manufactured a two-out rally in the third inning. After two quick outs, Lorenzo Cain and Christian Yelich both got on base. Braun absolutely murdered a baseball to left-center. He added another hit too. Very much here for a Braun bounceback season.
Thing I liked: Alex Claudio had a nice debut – One pitcher that I believe many Brewers fans are high on this year is Alex Claudio. He has a unique pitching motion and very tough against left-handers. He did the damn thing in his only inning pitched. Claudio only needed eleven pitches get through his first appearance as a Milwaukee Brewers pitcher.
Thing I didn’t like: Fastball Freddy struggles from the jump – I’m not going to freak out about Peralta’s start. I said it as much that this is not a good team for Freddy Peralta. They’re way too patient for what Freddy tries to do with his fastball. Bill Schroeder said it as much on the broadcast that Peralta is going to have to incorporate his curveball or everyone will sit on the fastball.
Highlight of the night: Braun sets a ball into orbit even if the social media caption makes me cringe.
Hello, @AssociatedBank? This is Ryan Braun. I would like to make a deposit. #ThisIsMyCrew pic.twitter.com/zphhJLlyyh

Next up: Brewers-Cardinals get going for their third game of the series. Cardinals will send Dakota Hudson to the mound for his starting pitcher debut. He did pitch in relief a bit last year. Hudson did face the Brewers in an extremely small sample size, but they have some tape without question. Same goes for Brandon Woodruff. This will be an interesting one with many pitching unknowns at Miller Park.
