BrewCap: Houser Continues Strong Start To Season

Adrian Houser joins Brandon Woodruff in the ‘Starting the season off right’ club. Houser pitched very well on Wednesday night resulting in a 1-0 Brewers victory. He could not be touched out there. Houser went seven strong innings with five strikeouts, two hits, and two walks. This guy looks like a top-flight pitcher for the Brewers. Last week was great against Pittsburgh then he follows it up against a very good Chicago team. Glad that Houser was able to get the win with only one run as Brewers offense left much to be desired.
Player of the Game: Adrian Houser – As mentioned, he did a great job last night. Brewers might be on to something here with the combination of Woodruff and Houser. Good luck facing that if you’re the opposition. That is not going to be an easy task for any team. My favorite pitch of the night was Hauser getting Jose Abreu to strike out in the sixth inning.
Honorable Mention: Matt Mathias – Cool moment for Matt Mathias as he is part of the Brewers’ callup crew. Mathias played left field for Christian Yelich who needed the night off per Craig Counsell. Mathias is a virtual nobody when it comes to Brewers’ farm system. He had his first big league hit that resulted in his first big league run. If he can be a guy that can give everyone a break now and again, sign me up.
One Thing I Didn’t Like: This lineup was complete garbage – Sure, Mathias getting a hit was cool. But this lineup sucked more than the final season of Game of Thrones. I’m not sure what Craig Counsell is doing anymore. It feels like he is going into a random name generator and picking the lineup that way. It makes zero sense to me. As mentioned on yesterday’s recap that Brewers need to develop a little more consistency with their lineup.
Next up: Milwaukee wraps up their series with Chicago tonight. Old friend Gio Gonzalez will face off against the Crew. Gio is the type of pitcher that usually gives Milwaukee fits. Josh Lindblom gets the ball for the Brewers. The jury is still out on Lindblom after his first start. Hopefully, Counsell gives us a little bit better of a lineup today.
