BrewCap: Milwaukee Busts Out the Holiday Brooms

A topic of conversation at my holiday cookout was ‘The Brewers do not sweep anyone.’ I challenged that to say that it’s happened ‘more than you think’ In reality, the 51 win team only had four sweeps until they notched their fifth one on early Wednesday evening taking down Minnesota, 3-2. The whole week featured great pitching and timely hitting for Milwaukee. They’ve now won four straight but have only gained a half game on the Chicago Cubs who’ve won five straight. Brewers did what they could against a tough pitcher.
Player of the Game: Chase Anderson – Things are starting to look more like 2017 for Chase. He pitched well again going nearly six innings, allowing three hits, allowing one run and striking out five batters. He pitched well enough to win, and that’s all you can ask for. Chase has been very good through four of his last five starts. He continues to thrive in the warm weather games making me think he might be the pitching version of Aramis Ramirez.
Silver Star: Brad Miller – We talked about it on Monday, but Miller continues to contribute for this Brewers team. He had one hit, but the hit was a great one going deep for Milwaukee in the seventh inning to break up the 1-1 tie. Miller is batting .343 for the Brewers with a .410 OBP. I’d say this is a pretty good find for David Stearns, even if, it was an obvious one.
Honorable Mention: Keon Broxton – We wrote about it earlier today, but it’s worth giving Keon more praise. We were very close to having our holiday ruined by Brian Dozier and Eduardo Escobar. Instead, Keon pulled back a homer. He’s done it three times in the last week. The dude is putting on a Gold Glove campaign in a week. I hope Keon stays up.

Milwaukee stays home to play Atlanta for a big four-game series against the NL Central and East leaders. Brewers will be without Corey Knebel likely who pitched in all three Twins games. Braves could be down Freddie Freeman as he left Wednesday with an upper right arm contusion. Max Fried gets the ball for Atlanta. He dazzled in his last start against St. Louis with 11 strikeouts. Brewers send Jhoulys Chacin who will be put to the test with the copious amount of lefties in Atlanta’s order.
