BrewCap: Nelson’s Debut Flounders as Fish Bats Stay Hot
Milwaukee Brewers looked to be on the up and up coming into a homestand wit with Milwaukee. They won their last two games and went 5-2 on a tough road trip. Brewers welcomed Miami and Pittsburgh to town this week. Two teams with sub .500 records, and it appears to be the perfect time to strike. It was not. Instead, Brewers have been outscored 24-4 in two games against Miami, and they’re going to have to avoid getting swept by the Fish at Miller Park for the first time since 2006. Marlins dominated again with their hot hitting bats resulting in an 8-3 victory.
Player of the Game: Brian Anderson – How weird do you think it is for BA to call the game with an opposing player having the same name as him. Anderson has been a terror all week. He hit a massive grand slam in the third inning to give Miami a 5-1 advantage, and that’s all the Marlins needed for the rest of the game. This is the second straight game Anderson had a home run.
Honorable Mention: Adrian Houser – He did give up a run, that’s true, but it was unearned due to a Yasmani Grandal error. Adrian Houser has become a threat and a weapon out of the Brewers bullpen. There are things to be upset about this week, but let’s take some good vibes in about Houser. He had three innings of work with one hit allowed and six strikeouts. He saw his ERA come down to 2.82 on the year. Brewers can use him in many different ways.
The Thing To Discuss – Should Orlando Arcia hit seventh?: Instead of choosing a like or dislike, why not open it up to the floor. Orlando Arcia is an eight-hitter on most nights. He is currently hitting .260 with an OBP of .328 and eight home runs. Arcia should be hitting seventh or potentially even sixth in the lineup. He has been one of the Brewers’ best bats this month, and Travis Shaw should be the eighth hitter.
Next up: Brewers try to avoid the sweep in an afternoon matchup at The Keg. Milwaukee will send Freddy Peralta to the mound for a spot start. With Freddy, the worry is always the first inning. Miami will go with Caleb Smith. He is a solid left-hander and probably Miami’s All-Star at the moment. He struggled in the last 30 days of starts with a 4.68 ERA.
