BrewCap: Pirates Own the Weekend at Miller Park

For the first time all season, the Milwaukee Brewers played with the roof open. All three nights the roof was open at Miller Park. Sometimes, this means more home runs and higher scoring games yet no one told the Brewers. After Manny Pina launched a home run in the early part of Friday’s game, they did not hit another home run all weekend. It was a rough performance, and those who believe the Brewers might just be a middle of the road team are looking more right by the day.
Guerra and Anderson struggle
Both Junior Guerra and Chase Anderson had some trouble in their starts on Friday and Sunday. Anderson gave up two long balls to Jody Mercer and Adam Frazier. He also fell apart after retiring 10 straight to put the game out of reach for Milwaukee. He’s giving up so many gopher balls that it’s a worry a guy is going to take him yard at any moment. Anderson’s next outing is at Coors which should go swell. Guerra returned to the 2017 form by walking the park and giving up home runs. We’ll see if things get better next time around.
Ryan Braun forever
We talk all the time about our love for Ryan Braun, and it’s a true, deep love. He’s one of my favorite athletes of the last 10 to 20 years. Seeing him still come up with big moments is really special. Braun hit a go-ahead pinch-hit double in the 8th inning on Saturday night after Josh Hader gave up a surprising home run. Braun picked him right back up again with a huge hit to salvage one game from Pittsburgh.
Time is done for Eric Sogard
I’m not sure how long the Brewers can keep this up with Eric Sogard. After going 0-for-everything over the weekend, it’s probably the time and place to let Eric Sogard go. He’s not the same player as least year only batting .100 for the season. Brewers gave him all the chances this weekend, and he did not take advantage of that.
Next up
Milwaukee gets Cleveland for a tough two-game series. Indians are licking their wounds a little bit after the New York Yankees beat them with a couple in walkoff fashion. This will not be easy as the Brewers get Corey Kluber on Tuesday and Carlos Carrasco on Wednesday. Good luck.
Charlie.
