BrewCap: Robbie Ray Silences Brewers Bats
If you don’t know, I’m an avid DFS player. Love it. It’s one of my favorite things to do even if there are times where it drives me crazy. Case in point, I avoided Robbie Ray of the Arizona Diamondbacks because I’ve seen what Brewers have done against left-handers this season but that did not happen with Ray who continues look like a top flight pitcher. Milwaukee is now losers of four straight as they fall out of first place for the first time in more than a week.
Player of the Game: Zach Davies (Brewers) – There isn’t many people to talk about from Brewers side of things. Zach Davies made it through the sixth inning again, and that’s a great sign for Brewers. Davies struggled a bit early but he settled in. He handled Jake Lamb and Paul Goldschmidt for the most part.
(Not) Player of the Game: Eric Thames (Brewers) – It’s official, Brewers slugger is in a bit of a slump. In the last four games, he’s 1-for-12 and while he’s walking a little bit, it appears teams may have a book on him. Thames just missed a home run early in this game, but he needs to find himself at the plate again a little bit. To me, Brewers need to avoid him in left field with Braun going back on the disabled list, but that’s another story for later today.
Player of the Game: Robbie Ray (D’Backs) – Yep, he was damn good tonight. It’s the first time we’ve seen a left-hander have his way with Brewers. Hernan Perez, Domingo Santana and Keon Broxton all went quiet who usually rake against left-handers. We’ll see if this is a trend going forward.
Positive: I got nothing – This game sucked hard. There’s nothing to really latch on and be like ‘Well that was good.’ Big ass crowd got to see Milwaukee drop their third straight at home and their fourth in a row. Baseball can change so quickly.
Negative: Injuries pile up – Brewers lost Ryan Braun and Manny Pina in this game. It appears Braun is going back on the Disabled List after playing in three games, and it’s going to be an ugly Memorial Day Friday for him on the radio waves. It would suck to lose Pina to the Disabled List because I don’t think Jacob Nottingham is ready to be a big league catcher, so it probably means Andrew Susac comes up.
Next up: We get the second debut of Junior Guerra who missed the last six weeks with a calf injury. There were major red flags heading into Spring with him, and we’ll see if those continue on Friday night. Zach Godley goes for Arizona. He was the only pitcher in the last 10 that struggled for the D’Backs. We’ll see if that happens on Friday. Arizona is red hot and Brewers are not. Bad combo.
Charlie.
