BrewCap: Second Game Of Double Dip Ugly As The First

Milwaukee Brewers played their first doubleheader at Miller Park. We touched on that earlier today if you missed it as well as a recap for that game. Game 2 did not go much better for the Brewers. After they won the first two games of the series, the Crew came crashing back to earth with these two losses. No offense at all yet again for Milwaukee in these two games and instead of a promising start to the homestand, it was a disappointment. In the rare case of another disappointing game, we’re going with a straight bitch session of things wrong with the crew based off this game.
1. Craig Counsell is starting to put the pressure on Andy Haines – Counsell’s comments yesterday made it seem that he had enough with Andy Haines. I might be reading too much into it, but he expressed frustration with this Brewers offense. Counsell thinks this offense is a good one, but there is something missing. Who knows if it’s coaching or if the consistent moving of players is affecting guys. I know that’s Counsell’s thing, but maybe, they’re not responding well to it.
2. Josh Lindblom isn’t an MLB starter yet – I’m not ready to give up on Josh Lindblom, but it’s apparent he is not a big league starter at this point. It takes the players who are returning from somewhere like KBO to adjust. I’m giving Lindblom the benefit of the doubt that he can figure it out. It would not surprise me if he pitches well in the proverbial second half of the season.
3. Two losses today really hurt Milwaukee in standings – With these two losses, Milwaukee cratered towards the bottom of the National League. The 7th and 8th spot in the playoffs are going to be a wild race. It is likely no one will know those teams until the last week of the season. But Milwaukee could have established itself had they won one of these games today. Instead, they’re back to four games under .500 which was their lowpoint.
4. Manny Pina’s knee injury – Brewers have stayed relatively healthy in the return to baseball, but Manny Pina hurt his knee today during a baserunning play. Pina was said to be on crutches after the game which cannot be good. Pina has been one of the best players for Milwaukee this season. That would be a tough injury to deal with even if Omar Narvaez has it going at the plate.
Next up: Milwaukee takes on Pittsburgh yet again. This time at Miller Park. That place hasn’t been good to the Pirates so let’s hope Milwaukee can keep it that way. Derek Holland will get the ball again for Pittsburgh. He has been decent versus Milwaukee which boggles the mind. Corbin Burnes goes for Milwaukee as he tries to continue his solid 2020 campaign.
