BrewCap: The Return of Keon Broxton

At parts of the 2017 season, Keon Broxton played a crucial role for the Milwaukee Brewers team. But he had some struggles with striking out far too often along with a few other troubles at the plate. When the Brewers added Lorenzo Cain and Christian Yelich, Milwaukee left Broxton as the odd man out. With Cain on the DL, the former Brewers starter came up from Colorado Springs, and he made a massive impact in Friday’s game being the reason Milwaukee won their second straight game. Broxton legitimately did everything to help Milwaukee propel themselves over Cincinnati, 8-2.
Player of the Game: Keon Broxton – What an amazing night for Keon. It was his world, and we were all living it on Friday night. Broxton hit two home runs, he drove in another run with an RBI single, stole a base, found a way to get home after a terrible rundown and made a couple spectacular catches in the outfield. Broxton did it all. The other thing about Keon worth noting from this game is when he gets hot, he gets fucking hot. We’ll see if he keeps a hot bat this afternoon.
Silver Star: Chase Anderson – There’s something about Chase Anderson and warm weather games. It was blazing hot in Cincinnati and Anderson had some of his best stuff we’ve seen in the last couple starts. He made one mistake to a good hitting pitcher, but that was it. Anderson only allowed two hits through six innings and struck out six batters. Hope we see more of this from Chase.
Honorable Mention: Hernan Perez – He’s not a favorite on the Tap but deserves some credit. Two outs in the ninth, and Perez got up with runners on first and second. He drove in one run, and the other came in due to an error by the catcher. Still, it was a fantastic at-bat to give Milwaukee an extra run heading into the ninth inning.
Next up
Brewers will have a MASH unit out there with Cain on the DL, Yelich and Braun with back injuries. The outfield will probably be Thames, Perez and Broxton, but Milwaukee is extremely thin. I wouldn’t be surprised if Yelich or Braun finds their way to the disabled list. Jhouyls Chacin will try to bounce back after a tough one in Milwaukee, but it’s going to be tough in this ballpark with it being very, very hot. Tyler Mahle will try to avoid his lefty problem just like Chacin. Think it’s going to be a high-scoring affair.
