Milwaukee Brewers could have enjoyed one of the best weekends of the year. If they were to win both games over the weekend, they would be up four games up on Chicago, and a commanding 7.5 games up on St. Louis. Even if they won one, it would have been one of the largest leads of the season for Milwaukee. Instead, Milwaukee will be two games up on Chicago, and St. Louis is only 3.5 games back after winning back-to-back games in Milwaukee over the weekend including a dominating performance on Sunday afternoon. Jhoulys Chacin continues to be Shawn Marcum 2.0 on Sunday afternoons.

Player of the Game: Jose Martinez – He had one hit, but it was the biggest one of the game. Martinez hit a massive three-run homer to pull St. Louis ahead by four runs in the fourth inning. Cardinals never looked back from there. Chacin is typically pretty good against righties, but he made a mistake with Martinez. And to his credit, the Cardinals first baseman is a professional hitter.

Silver Star: Dexter Fowler – Once upon time, he was a Brewer killer with the Chicago Cubs, yet, he hasn’t done the same with the Cardinals. Fowler had a terrible year, and it drove Cardinals fans to hararas him and his wife off Twitter. He played a big part in this game with two hits, two run scored and got on base another time with a walk. Cards need to get him hot to have a chance to contend.

Honorable Mention: Dan Jennings – Litunenant Dan gets the nod from the Milwaukee side. He pitched nearly two innings of perfect baseball with two strikeouts and no walks. Good to see Jennings pitch well yesterday afternoon. He’s been inconsistent at best in the last month or so. Maybe this could get Jennings rolling again.

Next up: Milwaukee stays home to play Kansas City for a two-game series starting on Tuesday. Tomorrow is Milwaukee’s only day off in the next few weeks. Brewers are in a bad time for games everyday with all different guys banged up. Freddy Peralta will make his first home start at Miller Park. That should be more than enough reason to get people there. He’ll face Jakob Junis who gives up homers like it’s his job. 19 on the season with 13 from right-handers. There are some red alert dudes to go deep.
