BrewCap: Yelich’s Homecoming is a Hit

Milwaukee Brewers have not lost a series since a matchup with Philadelphia in mid-June. Miami may look like a bad team due to record, but they’ve played .500 baseball over the last month. That’s all you can ask for with a struggling team. Marlins are a frisky bunch and showed it by jumping all over Jhouyls Chacin early on in this ball game. But things settled down as Milwaukee did not allow a run after the fourth inning. Brewers ensured they have a chance to win the series tonight as Milwaukee gets it done with an 8-4 victory led by former Marlins outfielder Christian Yelich who continues to play well in his old ballpark.
Player of the Game: Christian Yelich – How about this for a homecoming? Yelich goes 3-for-5 with four RBIs in this one. He lashed a double in the 9th inning to put Milwaukee ahead by four runs and made it a non-save situation for Corey Knebel. The former Marlin has been red hot of late with multiple hits in his last three games. Yelich gave the Crew offense on a night where Jhouyls Chacin didn’t have his best stuff.
Silver Star: Travis Shaw – Even though Shaw only had one hit, it was a big one in the eighth inning. He helped Milwaukee pad the lead with a solo home run to put Milwaukee up 6-4 at the time. Shaw also made contact in the first driving in Milwaukee’s first run of the game. Shaw getting hot to finish up the first half would be stellar.
Honorable Mention: Corbin Burnes – How about Burnesy! First appearance in the majors and he passes it with flying colors out of the bullpen. Burnes went two innings with no hits allowed and a one strikeout. 18 of the 25 pitches were strikes. This is a very impressive debut for someone people did not know would fit the bullpen mode.
Next up: Milwaukee finishes their season series with Miami tonight as Freddy Peralta goes for the Crew against Dan Straily. Now, Miami likes to hit the fastball, and that’s worrisome for a guy like Peralta. They do not strikeout a ton, but we’ve seen Young Fred take advantage against teams like Kansas City where K’s aren’t their thing. Straily has been awful especially at home. He carries a 5.52 ERA at his home park.
