Brewers’ Hunt for Chris Archer & Zack Wheeler

Milwaukee Brewers are one of the major teams involved with the Major League Baseball trade deadline. It’s going down in the middle of the day tomorrow. We’ll see if things get crazy. Brewers are in good position. They’re currently leading the Wild Card, and they only trail the Chicago Cubs by 1.5 games. Currently, Milwaukee is in the running for Tampa Bay’s Chris Archer and New York’s Zack Wheeler. Both players will come at a premium, but both are worth the investment. The question will the Brewers want to meet the asking price.
Phillies, Braves, Brewers and Yankees are among teams to have shown the most interest in Zack Wheeler. 2 division rivals, the ny rival and milw. In any case, no one has met the asking price. If nothing changes, may well stay in queens.

These guys are definitely in high demand. Archer might be more than others with teams like the Cardinals and Padres looking into him where they’re building for 2019 or 2020 versus this season especially San Diego who is 20 games under .500. Some think the Rays are full of shit, and they’ll deal Archer in the winter versus making a move in the final couple of days. Tampa wants someone to overpay, and I don’t think the Brewers are going to do it. Some other team like San Diego which would be fucking obscure might do it.
As for Wheeler, I feel like the Brewers have an advantage. I know they dealt Asdrubal Cabrera to a rival, but this is a different as Wheeler carries more control. Do you want to trade him to Atlanta or Philadelphia seeing him play on a regular basis? Same with potentially being a member of the New York Yankees. That could pave the way for the Mets being more likely to trade with the Brewers, although, per Heyman, it seems like the price is too high. Stearns will likely go with a package that fits more of Wheeler’s complete profile versus recent performance.
Can’t wait to see what Brewers end up doing.
Charlie.
