Milwaukee Brewers fans wondered if their team was going to make a move for the August deadline after a curious July deadline. People wanted them to make a move for a pitcher, even though, the market was very small. They did that with getting Gio Gonzalez then Milwaukee adding Curtis Granderson to get a much-needed left-handed bat off the bench. Brewers added two good clubhouse guys, and two guys whom should be able to help the Brew Crew make a push in the playoff race. This young-ish team keeps adding veteran talent.

Gonzalez has been a popular player for many sports radio callers and hosts to yearn for to be a Brewer. I’m not huge on Gonzalez with how he struggles with walks and hasn’t really been good post All-Star break. That said, Derek Johnson is a wizard. Wade Miley came into Milwaukee with questions, and despite his advanced stats say otherwise, Miley continues to be great for the Brewers. Jhoulys Chacin struggled mightily versus lefties throughout his whole career, and now, he’s the best pitcher on the staff with him being a true stopper. For Milwaukee to get Gonzalez, they must see something in him, and Johnson knows he can fix whatever he’s struggling with this year.

With the struggles on the mound, people forget how bad Eric Thames was in August. He went 4-for-41 hitting .098 with 25 strikeouts. Right now, Thames is basically a Russell Branyan where he’s only useful for a potential home run from the left side. Thames became unusable and lost playing time with Ryan Braun playing much better in the last month. Granderson still has some pop in his bat, and he can thrive at Miller Park with his pull power plus the short porch in right field. He is an ideal pinch hitter for this team.

Milwaukee has a fun roster for September. Some could argue they’re a 30 or 32 deep team versus 25, and that the 25 limit actually hurt them.
