Brian Gutekunst Strengthens His Front Office Staff
Brian Gutekunst wanted to work with Milt Hendrickson last season. Baltimore Ravens said no as he was a trusted scout and still under contract. Gutekunst and Hendrickson are long-time friends dating back to college, so, it’s no surprise that Hendrickson is coming to the Packers this season as his contract has ran out with a new regime in Baltimore taking over for Ozzie Newsome. The role for Hendrickson has not been defined, even though, there are reports out that he will be the director of football operations. Gutekunst continues to surround himself with smart guys, and that has benefited Packers front offices in the past.
The title that Hendrickson has with the Packers is the same one Eliot Wolf had before taking a role with the Cleveland Browns last season. Hendrickson was both a regional and national scout for the Ravens and won a Super Bowl whilst there in 2012. Baltimore is known for their powerhouse drafts throughout the years, and Hendrickson’s scouting can be contributed to some of that work especially offensive lineman. He will only help the Packers grow their young roster and hopefully build on last year’s successful 2018 NFL Draft.
Gutekunst and Hendrickson are in Mobile, Alabama at the Senior Bowl with other Packers front office types scouting the best seniors for next year’s NFL draft. To have Hendrickson on board already and be working with Gutekunst is a great sign for Packers fans. These guys are developing a plan on how to attack the NFL Draft. Another thing worth considering with Hendrickson is free agent-to-be Za’Darius Smith, a talented EDGE rusher on Baltimore. Some have pegged him as a potential addition for the Packers next season, and Hendrickson would have first-hand knowledge if he would fit in with Mike Pettine’s scheme.
