Bucks Buzz: Bench Comes Alive for Milwaukee
Milwaukee Bucks won their third straight game on Wednesday at the Fiserv Forum with their bench coming big for them. They won 123-115. Giannis Antetokounmpo and the bench were big reasons why the Bucks were able to battle back against the Pelicans. They trailed at certain points of the second half, but Milwaukee found a way to win this one then close out the Pellies. Milwaukee won five of six, and they come rolling on a heater into Boston. Like Monday, this is another strong win for this Milwaukee basketball team.
Player of the Game: Giannis Antetokounmpo – Even though the bench were the headline, Giannis had a great game against superstar foe Anthony Davis. He had 25 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Giannis had some great moments in this game helping the Bucks win again on their home court. It’s always a good feeling to watch Giannis outplay another superstar. In the realm of MVP talk, that’s what MVPs do and Giannis did exactly that.
Silver Star: D.J. Wilson – What a game from D.J! The breakout is upon us. I wrote when the Bucks picked up their option that Mike Budenholzer and the staff saw something with him hence picking up the extra year, and it’s clear they did with a near double-double last night. Wilson finished the game with nine points and 10 rebounds. He shot the ball 10 times which is a bit aggressive, but I don’t hate it. Bucks needed a spark from their bench, and Wilson is adding to it. Fascinated to see if he can keep this up.
Positive: Bench mob takes shape – As we talked about it, the bench played its best of game of late. Missing Ersan Ilyasova and Pat Connaughton, the Bucks bench has been looking for an identity. They found one yesterday. Bucks’ second unit had 49 points yesterday, and 38 percent of the scoring output for Milwaukee. That hasn’t happened often this season for Milwaukee. Tony Snell, Wilson, Thon Maker, George Hill and Sterling Brown all had moments in yesterday’s game.
Negative: The slump continues for Midds – This has been a rough month for Khris Middleton. After having such a hot start to the season, Middleton slowed down drastically in December. He had 14 points on Wednesday night missing all five three-pointers he attempted. We thought on Monday, there were signs of a breakout, but that was not the case. Boston has been good to him. Let’s hope that continues on Friday.
Highlight of the night: Giannis with big ass dunk – This man is a dunking machine. So much fun to watch him dominate.
Next up: Milwaukee heads to Boston for a primetime showdown with the Celtics on Friday night. This game is important for Milwaukee. They win this one, and they’ll have a chance to win the tiebreaker over Boston. If the Celtics win, they’ve won the season series against the Bucks. Boston suffered a setback on Wednesday losing to Phoenix at home (Oh weird, someone else did that? I thought only the Bucks lost to bad teams hmmm). Celtics have lost their last two, but 8-2 in their last 10 games.
