Bucks Buzz: Bucks’ Hard Fight Ends in Disappointment
Milwaukee Bucks did not quit tonight. They could have easily got blown out by 20 points, and all of us would have been watching Game of Thrones at the normal 8 pm hour. Instead, the Bucks somehow took the Toronto Raptors to two overtimes and came up short losing 118-112. This game made no sense. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton and Eric Bledsoe all had bad nights which usually spells disaster. Tonight, they played hard defense and tried their best to stay in this game. Milwaukee loses their first game on the road, and now, Toronto will try to even up the series on Tuesday night.
Player of the Game: Marc Gasol – To me, this was the biggest reason why Milwaukee lost on Sunday night. Gasol found his way in the post as this mountain for Giannis to deal with each time he went into the paint. Get past Kawhi Leonard or Danny Green? Well, there is Gasol waiting for you. He did not probably get enough fouls called against him, but that will happen from time to time in the NBA. Bucks will have to adjust to him in the paint. The Spaniard had a solid offensive game too with 14 points and eleven rebounds.
Honorable Mention: George Hill – Another great playoff performance from George Hill. Remember, this is the same guy that did not have great playoffs with LeBron James and Cleveland last season. Hill continues to flourish off the bench with 24 points, seven rebounds, and three made threes. Hill played a major factor down the stretch and in overtime. He is a big shot taker and can definitely play in the Bucks’ crunch time lineups.
The Thing I Liked: Defense was outstanding – Sure, the offense of the Bucks did not live up to the standard they set for themselves all season. But their defense was excellent. They did not let Toronto get any point paints in the second half of the game. Milwaukee forced the Raptors outside all game long. Bucks did not make it easy on the Raptors as well. Good defense by everyone on the team.
The Thing I Didn’t Like: Giannis struggled all game long – That sucks for the Greek Freak. We do not see it much, but every now and again, a bad night happens for him. He needs to find some open looks. How does he do that? Pick and roll action with Giannis and Bledsoe, Brogdon or Middleton. Find a way to free Giannis up early on and keep using it until Toronto can stop it. Raptors adjusted nicely, and now, it’s Milwaukee’s turn to return the favor.
The Highlight of the Night: Middleton’s game-tying basket.

Next up: Bucks will try to take a commanding 3-1 lead over Toronto. Milwaukee has not lost two straight games since early February. That was the only time they lost two straight games. I expect Bucks to come up with far more energy than Toronto considering Leonard and Pascal Siakam each played over 50 minutes in the game. Bucks had a few in the 40’s but nowhere near that many minutes.
