Bucks Buzz: Lopez and Donte Guide Bucks Past Hornets
(Sorry for being a day late)… Bucks found themselves in an interesting spot on Saturday night at the Fiserv Forum. They faced a Charlotte team who has given them fits all year long. But also a Charlotte team that is currently struggling, out of the playoffs and coming to the city on a back-to-back. What happened was Charlotte came out firing making shot after shot, but the Bucks were able to wear them down as the game went on. Donte DiVincenzo provided the spark in the second quarter and Lopez provided the scoring in the third as the Bucks ended up routing the Hornets, 131-114. This is yet another team where the Bucks own the season series against them.
Player of the Game: Brook Lopez – Bucks showed teams why small ball isn’t going to always work. What Charlotte did to keep things close against the Bucks was a small ball lineup that frustrated the likes of Lopez and Giannis Antetokounmpo. They were able to create problems in the paint and in terms of the pace. Bucks finally did something about it. They sent Brook into the paint which he hasn’t done all year. Hornets defenders could not compete with the variety of post moves that Lopez showed off. He had 18 points in the third quarter and finished with 25 for the game. He only made one three for those 25.
Silver Star: Donte DiVencenzo – Remember him? Donte had a great game for being all over the place especially early on in this game. He dove for loose balls and made a few plays that seemed to spark a Bucks run. He also found his shot a little bit making three 3-pointers. This is the first night for DiVencnezo has been in double figures since late October. If he can be something for Milwaukee down the stretch or the playoffs, that would be a major plus.
Positive: Ass-kicking second half – Milwaukee impresses me on a regular basis, but some of my favorite Bucks games are the ones where the team just decided they had enough of Charlotte’s shit. They won the second half by 20 points. They won the third and the fourth quarter each by 10 points. Milwaukee laid down the lumber.
Negative: Khris Middleton’s inconsistency continues – I’m not trying to hunt box scores with Khris Middleton, but he is going through an interesting stretch. He is ice cold in Phoenix then hot versus Indiana and cold again versus Charlotte. He needs to be a little more consistent than what we’ve seen in the past couple of games.
Highlight of the night: Giannis step-in threes in the fourth quarter are my jam.
