Bucks Trading For Ricky Rubio Makes Sense

Yesterday, we told you reports were Bucks looked to shed money and be sellers for the NBA Trade Deadline. Also, reports came out that Milwaukee Bucks were interested Ricky Rubio and tried to send Matthew Dellavedova back with no interest from Minnesota Timberwolves. This is the second straight trade deadline where Bucks have some interest in the Spanish point guard. He fits with what Bucks are trying to do and think there’s a legitimate case as to why he should head down I-94
Windhorst also said the Bucks have "definite" interest in Rubio. Were looking to deal Delly for him, but Wolves weren't interested.

Rubio is the next generation of Jason Kidd. We heard that with Michael Carter-Williams too, right? But MCW couldn’t hold Rubio’s jock, and the comparison would be more fair with Timberwolves guard. He can’t shoot, scores on occasion, a dynamic passer and an underrated on-ball defender. The last two parts are obviously important to Milwaukee. If they were to acquire the 6’4 point guard, that’s what fans should focus in on. Instead of Delly trying to do his own thing, Rubio will defer to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton. Both guys will have more open shots than ever before.
Defense is the other part. Milwaukee lagged in that area for the last few months. Rubio increased his defense rating in the last few years and is playing his best defense per the metrics this season. If he can add an element of a perimeter defense, that can go a long way for Bucks success in the final couple months of the season.
It’s not surprising to see Dellavedova’s name being floated around in trade consideration. I know it might make some fans salty, but the fit isn’t there. As said before, a contender could benefit from him especially in the Western Conference where Delly is classically known for giving Steph Curry fits.
We’ll stay on Rubio watch even if he might head to New York and bypass Milwaukee.
Charlie.
