Can Bucks Survive Without Malcolm Brogdon?
On Saturday night, the Milwaukee Bucks announced that Malcolm Brogdon will miss six to eight weeks with a minor tear in his foot, most notably his plantar fascia. This is a significant injury for the Bucks. Brogdon is the glue of this starting lineup and a very clutch shooter for the Bucks down the stretch in close games. Milwaukee will have to learn to play without him for the rest of the regular season. There is some optimism that Brogdon could be back for the start of the playoffs and if Milwaukee advances, he should be ready for the second playoffs. Milwaukee is in the playoffs, but they need to keep things rolling to secure homecourt advantage.
The two players that the Bucks immediately turn to are George Hill and Tony Snell. Bucks are going to need more guard play out of both players. Nikola Mirotic is getting the start today, but that could be due to the size of Philadelphia versus an every game thing for the rest of the season. We can expect to see Snell in that starting lineup from time to time. Starting or not, Snell will be crucial to the Bucks’ finishing off the season as the number one seed. He has been an underrated part of the Bucks bench all year, and it would not surprise me to see him shine a bit.
Another guard that will have to step up is George Hill. The veteran is coming off an injury of his own, so, they may need to ramp him up. Hill will be limited against Philadelphia, and we’ll see how long he will play with his minutes restriction. Hill is very important for the staggering of minutes with Eric Bledsoe. That’s one of the major disadvantages with losing Brogdon is you cannot have him play point guard for Bledsoe. The rotations are going to have to change and more will be asked of Hill when he’s fully healthy.
Bucks can survive with Brogdon but it’s not going to be easy. This is the first major injury for the Milwaukee Bucks, and a part of me thinks it is good for them to have a bit of strife heading into the playoffs. Hopefully, The Prez can be back for the start of the playoffs.
