Can We Stop Obsessing About Ty Montgomery’s Number?
Green Bay Packers are in their silly season when it comes to news. Things are coming across the wire at a rapid rate with OTA’s, but the stories itself are not much. I get it especially if you’re doing something Packers-specific. That said, I’m so tired of Ty Montgomery and his number. Like why does he keep getting asking about wearing the number 88? It’s crazy that it bothers people so much that Monty is wearing a receiver’s number in the backfield. Here was his quote from yesterday in a strong Jason Wilde column.
“It was, ‘I want to keep it, is there any way I can keep it?’ Because I’ve seen guys out of position based on their number before,” Montgomery said following the Packers’ first open-to-the-public organized team activity practice earlier this week. “So I just started doing the research myself. It’s who I am. It’s me. It’s been my number, and if I don’t have to change it, why should I?”
Montgomery is spot-on here about why he should keep his number. This might be one of those things where I spend too much time on the internet, and I get worked up over stupid shit. But I have zero idea why this irks people. You see it all over Twitter on a consistent basis with every game Packers play during the season. Let’s stop with it and look at how he’s closely comparable with David Johnson.
