CFB Bowl Picks: Detroit, St. Pete & Camping

Bowl Picks come to you with a full day of football starting bright and early. Picks did not go well over Christmas with a 0-1, 0-1 which leaves us at 6-6 for the year. Not too shabby but this is usually when the wagon falls off.
Quick Lane Bowl: Maryland (-1.5) vs. Boston College 1:30 pm ESPN – Hard to believe that this is best game on the slate. This is a matchup of contrasting styles. Terrapins love to move the ball up and down the field while Boston College is very methodical. If Eagles can control the clock, they might win this one. I’m concerned about Perry Hills staying upright with the BC pass rush led by Harold Landry. I’m taking Boston College here. I don’t like it, but Terps o-line issues scare me with this defense. BC 17-14
Camping World Independence Bowl: NC State (-6) vs. Vanderbilt 4:00 pm ESPN – This is the second bowl meeting for these teams in the last five years. They both finished the season strong with some big wins to make them bowl eligible. Ralph Webb leads the way for the Dores, but the front seven of NC State is mean as all hell. They should be able to slow down Webb enough. NC State will have to deal with the tough Vandy defense, but Matthew Davies feels up to the task. Pack with a touchdown to win it at the end. NCSU 24-17
St. Petersburg Bowl: Miami (OH) vs. Mississippi State (-14) 10:00 am ESPN – Interesting game from the start time to the teams. Mississippi State is a 5-7 team in on academics, and this Miami of Ohio team started the year 0-6 and finished 6-6 on the year. They’re one of the hottest teams in football. Dan Ragland is pretty good at quarterback, but I’m not sure it can beat an SEC team. Nick Fitzgerald and Fred Ross should be fun out there for State. There’s going to be a great deal of offense in this one. I’m taking Bulldogs with a brutal backdown cover. MISS STATE 45-33
