Choose Your Own Badger CFB Playoff Adventure

College Football Playoff rankings will come out tonight, and Wisconsin Badgers are likely going to get the short end of the stick. The Associated Press rankings showed the first hand putting Michigan ahead of Wisconsin after their loss to Ohio State. The same could happen on Tuesday night. Sure, there’s a chance that Wisconsin moves up to five, Michigan to six and Penn State to seven, yet it doesn’t seem like that would fall in-line with what they’ve done in the past few weeks.
Remember choose your own adventure? Let’s do it with Wisconsin Badgers. Every one of these scenarios figures Wisconsin beats Penn State on Saturday night at Lucas Oil Stadium.
STATUS QUO
Alabama will play Clemson, and Ohio State will match up against Washington. Buckeyes should be at the fourth spot, but the committee would probably prefer that the Alabama-Ohio State matchup happens a week later. I could see a situation where Wisconsin would get the fifth spot just to try and appease Badgers fans. That would be the most disrespectful thing possible, and I could totally see it happening. It’s like a girl showing you her boobs because she feels bad for you and your love life.
IF CLEMSON LOSES
My expectation is to see Clemson at the two spot, and if they fall to Virginia Tech, ACC will not have a representative in College Football Playoff. Wisconsin probably slides into the College Football Playoff playing Alabama, and Ohio State matching up with Washington. There’s not a chance that Michigan and Ohio State both go, and they exclude Big Ten champion.
IF WASHINGTON LOSES
This one becomes more interesting than Tigers. Colorado could make their case that they deserve to replace Washington with Buffs losing to both Michigan and USC, two high quality teams. But Wisconsin’s loss versus Michigan might be favored more than what Colorado did at Big House. Badgers probably slide into the fourth spot where they’ll meet Alabama.
IF ALABAMA LOSES
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. If they do, I’m not sure how it changes things. Alabama is still the number one team even if they lose to Florida. That might make people mad, but Alabama is the best team in the land with or without a Florida win.
IF CLEMSON and WASHINGTON LOSES
This could get real messy. There are a few things that could play out here… I doubt the committee would go with three Big Ten teams, but it’s a real possibility to have Ohio State, Michigan and Wisconsin in a College Football Playoff. What might happen in this situation is Wisconsin and Ohio State both get in then the winner of Oklahoma-Oklahoma State ends up in the playoff. Michigan gets avoided because they’re the hardest team to place. How do you put both Wisconsin and Colorado in the playoff and not Michigan?
This is going to be a wild ride starting on Friday night. The first chip could fall if Washington loses to Colorado, or they win to secure the second spot in the playoff.
