Christine Michael’s Green Bay Impact

Green Bay Packers listened to what we wrote about on Wednesday morning. I made a plea to Ted Thompson to claim Seattle Seahwks running back Christine Michael before Minnesota or Detroit did. This ended up getting some pub on 105.7FM The Fan yesterday morning, shouts to Bart for that. Green Bay actually claimed Michael and blocked Minnesota. Now, that Michael is a part of the Packers roster what kind of impact can he have? He’s not saving the season, but the former Seahawk gives Green Bay back their power running game.
Green Bay does want to run the football, but they haven’t done it well since Eddie Lacy went down with injury. Their offense is designed to have a power runner in the backfield. Green Bay didn’t have that with James Starks, Ty Montgomery, Don Jackson or Knile Davis. They do have that with Michael. He’s a hard runner and a guy who is not afraid of contact. Some of those running plays designed for Lacy will definitely fit more of Michael’s style than Starks and that could be an added bonus for this team.
He’s battling a hamstring injury, but Green Bay must have felt good enough to make a move this week. I wouldn’t expect him to be the starter this week, but next week and moving forward that’s entirely possible. Michael and Starks could both have big games with Washington having one of the worst run defenses in football. If nothing else, Michael gives Green Bay some help at the goal line.
