Consider Me A Fan of Downtown Tailgating

On Wednesday, the Milwaukee Bucks will open the first part of their new arena with their parking structure. From all of the things you read, it sounds like the real deal, and the first part of an amazing experience that will change downtown Milwaukee. One of the new things that will be possible with the parking structure is downtown tailgating. Yes, downtown tailgating is a thing that will be part of Milwaukee. Let’s get excited.
Before we get too excited about our new reality, Milwaukee Bucks President Peter Feigen made it clear that grills are probably not going to be allowed. That said, it does seem like there will be some space for pregame festivities. You might think this makes no sense in a sport that’s primarily a winter one, but you’re not seeing the next level here. Playoff basketball happens in April, May and June which the last two are prime for tailgating. Even if the Bucks have a couple grills and they sell beer up there, it’s a great added amenity to what they’re already offering. The Rave does something similar, and it’s actually gives them a reason to do summer concerts.
It’s exciting to see different parts of the stadium come together. I get off on McKinley Avenue all of the time, and I see the huge LED sign that’s outside the parking structure which is still very cool. It’s not anything major, but it’s a total game-changer when you arrive in the city. If nothing else, it serves as a reminder of what’s coming.
First brat is on me, guys.
Charlie.
