Christian Yelich is the National League MVP. If you don’t believe it by now, you either are a Cubs fan, own Bleacher Nation’s Twitter account or Keith Law. Yelich is the MVP. He continues to put on a show and do things we haven’t seen in baseball. The two cycles in the second half. The Fact he had a slugging percentage higher than .700 in the second half of the season. You know the only players who’ve done that? JD Martinez last year, Ryan Howard in 2006 and Barry Bonds in 2004. Howard and Bonds each won MVP. Yelich could add another accomplishment to his mantle before the season ends in five days. A triple crown. Yes, it’s possible. Yes, it’s unrealistic. But if anyone can do it, it’s Christian Yelich.

-Is 3 home runs short of the NL lead;
-Is 6 RBI short of the NL lead;

The hardest thing for Yelich to do might be the home runs. He’s three off the pace. This would mean he would need at least a homer in three of his last four games. Yelich has done this before, but it’s a crowded leaderboard at the top. Matt Carpenter slowed down considerably in the month of September. There are 10 players within three of the home run lead. Average is Yelich’s if he stays the course. He’s up on Scooter Gennett by six percentage points. RBIs could be for the taking. He only trails Nolan Arenado, teammate Jesus Aguilar and Javy Baez. The Cubs MVP candidate is up six RBIs on Yelich and five on the field. He would need to slump for the Brewers outfielder to catch him.

It’s incredible that this is a conversation we’re having about a Brewers player. It’s amazing. Yelich is doing things that we haven’t seen since Ryan Braun in 2011. But even so, it seems better than Braun. Maybe it’s recency bias, but Yelich’s professional hitting ability is something to marvel at on a daily basis.
