Crybaby Golfers Get Their Way At Erin Hills

I’m a big golf fan. You wouldn’t tell it by my writing of it, but I am. I come out of hiding every now and again to drop a hot take yet it’s not often. The greater Milwaukee area is hosting its first major in quite some time being out at Erin Hills this week. One of the notable things about the course is the fescue that is next to the fairway on most holes. Golfers started to bitch about how it was too tall and unplayable. Sure enough, the USGA listened to them and cut it down quite a bit. This drew some criticism from Rory McIlroy, friend of the program.

This is a beautiful comment by Rory. He speaks his mind, and this is spot on for how golfers should have handled the fescue. It’s not my fault that Kevin Na hit a ball into the long grass and wanted to make a sweet Instagram post. When did we decide to give a damn about what Kevin fucking Na thinks. He’s a B to C level golfer. This is the U.S. Open. I get that USGA took some flak for making the course too hard in years past especially recently, but golf should be hard sometimes. That’s why you’re a goddamn professional.
Erin Hills and USGA came out saying that it’s due to the heavy rains on Tuesday. I’m not sure I believe that entirely. I’m sure the rains would affect balls in there, but you have to believe some of the reason to do it were to appease some golfers.
Semi-related, I think I’m in the bag for Rory this week. He’s staying at the same hotel I was at this weekend. As we were getting cocktails before the wedding, a man is ready to enter the door. I look over, it’s Rory. He pretty much gets out and bails right there sprinting away before anyone could figure out who he is. Love it.
Charlie.
