Josh Hader is having a great start to the MLB restart. He has been dominating out of the bullpen. Some people may believe that Craig Counsell is not using him enough as a reliever. It is a fair argument to make considering Hader is one of the best relievers in baseball. And he is used to pitching multiple innings for saves. Counsell claims the reason for this decision is due to the lack of days off teams have this season compared to last year and years prior. As Tom Hardicourt wrote yesterday, Hader pitched a no-hitter thus far going 9.1 innings with no hits. It is a pretty incredible run.

Hader won Reliever of the Year for the last two seasons. You can see why he’s been that guy for the Brewers. While he had some blips on the radar last year, Hader ended up with a successful season. He is one of the best players on the Milwaukee Brewers roster, and with his current contract, he will be here for a long time. That is, if the Brewers decide to keep him versus moving on from Hader in the next couple of seasons.

There will be rumors in the coming days about Hader potentially being on the trading block. Brewers listen to all of these conversations. And I do think there’s a real chance this might happen in the winter considering the success of Devin Williams. But it is hard for me to see the Brewers moving on from Hader this season. Brewers have a legitimate shot to make the playoffs yet again, and I don’t think David Stearns and the front office for Milwaukee will want to punt on the season. Could the Brewers make the playoffs without Hader? Possibly. Will they make it out of the first round without him? Not a chance.
