Does Dave Aranda Regret Leaving Wisconsin?

On Sunday, LSU’s Head Coach Les Miles and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron were fired from their jobs. It doesn’t come as a surprise with the LSU athletic department having more dysfunction than last night’s Presidential Debate. Dave Aranda, formerly of Wisconsin, kept his job as defensive coordinator. Aranda’s contract isn’t tied to Miles, therefore, he gets to stay in Baton Rouge and keep coaching a defense who has done pretty well under him. But you have to wonder if he sees what Wisconsin is doing this season and get a little envious he’s not coaching that squad.
Aranda could have held out one more year, and he’s probably off to Notre Dame to replace Brian VanGorder. This can still happen for him, and I would consider him the favorite given the unknown with LSU’s coaching search. Aranda doesn’t seem like a guy who wants to be a head coach, but if he did, this might be the opportune time to take a head coaching position. But a part of me knows there’s some buyer’s remorse from Aranda who could have got paid like he did in 2016 after the LSU season. He’s still going to be highly sought after, but it probably means another move for him which isn’t really his style if you read any quotes from him about moving the family around the country.
LSU plays Missouri on Saturday night.
