Don’t Expect Much From CFB Playoff Committee, Badger Fans

College Football Playoff committee has a lot of work to do in the coming two days to decide what they are doing this week. People are going to overreact and there are going to be some unfair things about it. There’s only one given right now, and that’s Alabama being number one. Other than that, it’s a complete and utter crapshoot at the top. Wisconsin Badgers could see themselves in the top five, but those expectations might be a little unrealistic.
Despite all of the losing by the teams above Wisconsin, they are still a two-loss team. That cannot be forgotten. Even though the two losses are against two of the best teams in the country, it’s one more loss than everyone else yet it hard to think where this committee will lean when the rankings come out on Tuesday. Clemson is a one-loss team, but their loss was last week at home. What kind of message does it send if they are still in the top four? Same goes for Michigan who lost on the road but facing an average Iowa team. Washington might have the best case to make zero movement as they lost to a ranked opponent although they were beat the most soundly out of the three.
For a week, they could go with a top four that looks like Alabama-Ohio State-Louisville-Wisconsin, but my guess is they will keep one of the teams that lost in the top four. Even though it feels dirty, they need to have some stability and not look like they’re reacting week-to-week with this playoff. Michigan has been the best team out of the three that lost last weekend. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Wisconsin at six trailing Clemson at five and Michigan at four. Badgers greatest opponent right now is Louisville. They have one more hurdle with Houston on Thursday night, but they are a one-loss team with it being a quality one. The committee could look past it and give Cards the last playoff spot with Clemson sliding into third. Badgers fans need to become Cougars fans come Thursday.
The other thing Wisconsin needs to hope for is Penn State stays away from the Big Ten title game. No one is taking Wisconsin if they beat Penn State and win out. Penn State is there, but so much would have to happen for Nittany Lions to find themselves in the playoff. Badgers best hope is for Michigan to be there.
Rankings come out tomorrow night and the outrage that will follow could be legendary. Cannot wait.
Charlie.
