Don’t Sweat Aaron Rodgers’ New Contract

It’s already begun. Stories upon stories about Aaron Rodgers needing a new deal to replace his former contract. Lines about ‘What must Rodgers be thinking?’ when a quarterback gets an astronomical amount of money, or an elite player makes the top dollar. When asked about it at the final day of OTA’s, Rodgers couldn’t have been more cool and collective about the whole process. Hopefully, Packers fans will follow this lead. Here’s what Rodgers said to Rob Demovsky of ESPN
“Well, that stuff usually takes care of itself, and I have a fantastic agent, he does a great job. He worries about that stuff,” Rodgers said. “When it comes to setting the market values, I let that stuff take care of itself. I know my value in this league, and I know the team appreciates me. I’m going to continue to make myself an indispensable part of this roster. When you do that, when your time comes up to get a contract, you usually get a contract extension.”
This makes you feel aright about Rodgers as he seems to have a realistic scope of what’s going on. I know people are going to try and say Packers quarterback might not be worth a new deal. That’s a ridiculous comment given how swallow the quarterback field is. Others are going to wonder if he breaks down in his new deal since the Packers quarterback will be 35 when his contract runs out. My guess is Ted Thompson will plan it to go until he’s about 38-39 which was in Brett Favre territory for when he left the team.
Once again, there’s no need to panic about a new contract. Packers are going to get it done and have it to Rodgers in no time, therefore, Packers fans should practice patience.
