It’s Eric Sogard’s World & We’re Just Living In It.
Eric Sogard is one of the major stories of Milwaukee Brewers this season. He played for Oakland Athletics at a decent level. I wouldn’t call it stellar by any means, but he played okay there. Sogard ripped up his knee and took a year off from baseball. He returned to a new team in Milwaukee and worked his way through Spring Training and minors to become one of the stars of this team. Sogard had three hits yesterday afternoon keying a Brewers victory including a ridiculous defensive play to gun down Adam Frazier to end the 8th inning and Pirates’ threat.

At some point, we all thought the 31-year-old would cool down, and it’s not happening. For the season, he’s hitting .366 with three home runs, an OBP of .466 and OPS of 1.020. He also carries at WAR of 1.8. He’s in another world, and it doesn’t seem like he’s slowing down at any point. It’s very similar to Casey McGehee’s breakout year with Brewers. Sogard is a little more known than McGehee, but they both came out of nowhere to have this incredible year for Brewers. Jonathan Villar is returning soon, although he will be heading to bench as Sogard has the second base position until further notice.
Nerd power is alive and well in Milwaukee.
