Fiserv Forum’s Beer Prices are Offensive

Like most Milwaukeeans, I did a tour of the Fiserv Forum and walked around the place. It’s awesome. We talk a bunch on the podcast today about the building. But the one thing that Mitch and I had trouble getting past was eleven dollar Miller Lites. Yes, you read that right. It’s 11 dollars for a domestic beer in the State of Wisconsin. It’s the most expensive beer at a venue in the state, and there going to deal with complaints about it all season. The people who should be smiling tonight are the bars on Third Street & Water where people can have nearly three beers for the price of one Fiserv Forum beer.
I’m not calling for Atlanta Falcons-type pricing where it’s five dollars for a craft beer. That’s pretty tough especially when you have the State of Wisconsin full of drunks. Rather, why didn’t they take a page from the Milwaukee Brewers book? Brewers’ beer prices are more than reasonable for a sporting event. Why would the owners of the team decide to jack up beer prices and keep the food prices to more of moderate level?
Truth be told, they probably went too heavy on food. There are SO many choices. You could have fried chicken, poke, gyros, sausages, burgers. You name it, they got it. To offset all of the food, they needed to bring beer prices up. That’s a dumb move when considering this state’s affinity for wanting to drink beers. It’s hard to come to terms with one Miller Lite costing about the same as a 12-pack in the store. I’m trying to wonder if there’s a way to fix this before the season starts in October.
They’ll have some data to work off of in the coming weeks with concerts and comedy show, but my guess is they will stay the course. It’s a great venue, and I’m happy it’s in Milwaukee… I just wish the beer prices could be along with the rest of the positives.
