In 2017, it’s extremely trendy to blame millennials for killing things. ‘Millennials are killing bar soap’ or ‘Buffalo Wild Wings’ Erin Hills might be a millennial course, but golf purists are clamoring for the old U.S. Open. It’s embarrassing to watch these grown men lose their shit over a golf course. Erin Hills ended up being easier than expected due to the heavy rains softening the course in the first three days. We all need to enjoy new courses to the U.S. Open and know challenges still exist.

Johnny Miller and ESPN’s Jason Sobel are trying to suck the newness out of golf. They cannot accept the fact we have new great public golf courses that deserve a shot to host a major. Remember, this is the same type of shit with Chambers Bay two years ago. They bitched that Chambers Bay was too dry, and now Erin Hills is too soft. Shut up and enjoy that some U.S. Open’s are going to be different than others. Sobel’s column falls extremely short considering nine of the next 10 U.S. Open’s are being played at former U.S. Open courses.

This isn’t the USGA reinventing themselves, but they’re probably sick of the players shitting on their courses on a regular basis. And this wasn’t an easy course. If it was easy, Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Jason Day would have made the cut and contended for the championship. They all missed the cut. Same goes for a hot, young star Jon Rahm who also missed the cut by a mile. Instead, we should be celebrating that this golf tournament might be the launching pad for one of the great young stars of golf whether it’s Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, Patrick Reed or Tommy Fleetwood.
