Grading The Green Bay Packers 2019 Schedule
Green Bay Packers schedule is out and ready for all the public eye to see this morning. People are making their plans to visit Lambeau Field, decide what road trip they might take or anything else about the impending 2019 NFL season. A few things stand out on the schedule for the Packers. One, they play five of their first seven games at home. Second, Green Bay begins their season the exact same way as they did last year. Third, they were sub .500 for the second straight year, and they’re still tied with the most primetime games. Let’s grade out the schedule as it stands on April 18th. Here’s how it will work…
A: I expect the Packers to win this football game easily. B: There could be some issues but the team is coming out victorious. C: Ehhhh I don’t know, Jim! In my best Tony Romo impression. D: Man, that’s one of the toughest of the year. There will be no F’s because I always think Green Bay has a shot even if I’m not very confident.
Thursday, September 5th at Chicago: NFL season kicks off. Matt LaFleur era is off and running. I hate the idea of playing the first game of the season, but Rodgers definitely wants to deliver a message to the Bears. GRADE: B-
Sunday, September 15th vs. Minnesota: Packers get 10 days to prepare for the new-look Vikings as they have a new offense running the show. Kirk Cousins dominated the Packers in two starts last year, and this game went down to the wire with a few malpractices by the officials. GRADE: B+
Sunday, September 22nd vs. Denver: I’ll never forget the Super Bowl loss, therefore, I hope the Packers jam this one completely down their throats. Joe Flacco will likely be the quarterback opposition: GRADE: A-
Thursday, September 26th vs. Philadelphia: Another Thursday night affair, this time it will be kick off FOX’s coverage of Thursday Night. Packers strangely do very well versus Philly. This will be the second edition of Carson Wentz versus Rodgers. GRADE: B+
Sunday, October 6th at Dallas: Uh oh, the bad man returns to JerryWorld. Rodgers is facing a much different Cowboys defense than he has in his past life, but man, he owns this football team. I’m not sure what it is but he’ll find a way to give Skip Bayless a heart attack. GRADE: B+
Monday, October 14th vs. Detroit: Monday Night Football. I’ll tell you one goal for 2019 on a personal note. Stop losing to fucking Lions and sweep their asses like the Packers have been doing for years. GRADE: A
Sunday, October 20th vs. Oakland: This is the calm before the storm for Green Bay. Get right, get feeling good before two big road affairs coming up the weeks ahead. Cannot look ahead either. GRADE: A
Sunday, October 27th at Kansas City: Just want to thank NBC for giving us a primetime matchup versus the Chiefs going directly against the World Series. Patrick Mahomes versus Aaron Rodgers will be really special. GRADE: D+
Sunday, November 3rd at Los Angeles: Packers will have two straight weeks where they’re on the road against a playoff team from last year. Good news about the Los Angeles game is the crowd will be full of Packers fans. GRADE: B-
Sunday, November 10th vs. Carolina: Interesting team this year with the Cam Newton injury. Not sure how I feel about their chances overall, so, we’ll play a wait and see before passing any judgment GRADE: A-
Sunday, November 24th at San Francisco: This is weird… They go home for two weeks then it’s back to the West Coast. Who knows about San Fran. Everyone’s darling last year and could be picking up steam again this year. GRADE: B-
Sunday, December 1st at New York: If the second West Coast trip wasn’t bad enough, they have to stop in Green Bay before heading to New York. Who knows where the Giants will be at this point. It’s the Packers first look at Saquon Barkley.
Sunday, December 8th vs. Washington: Not sure what the plan at quarterback for the Redskins with Alex Smith out. There’s a chance they’re very bad team, this could be a fortunate set-up. GRADE: A
Sunday, December 15th vs. Chicago: Green Bay will go two months without playing a division rival. They get things fired back up with Chicago. This could be a bloodbath. GRADE: B
Monday, December 23rd at Minnesota: Ugh, late game against the Vikings on the road is not my favorite thing. It could decide the division. Packers will look to win their first game at US Bank Stadium. GRADE: C
Sunday, December 29th at Detroit: Do they play the Lions every year to finish off the season? Like is that in the rule book? GRADE: B
There you have it. It is not an easy schedule, but it is a fun one without question. Cannot wait for the season to get started.
Charlie.
