Hackett’s Hiring Gets LaFleur Out of His Comfort Zone
Green Bay Packers have a new offensive coordinator. Nathaniel Hackett will be the offensive coordinator for the team. Hackett coached at Jacksonville, Buffalo and Syracuse prior to his stop in Green Bay. His dad was a Bill Walsh disciple and carried the West Coast principles with him. Everything you read about Hackett tells you he’s a high-energy guy who loves trying new things with his offense. He is more in-your-face than head coach Matt LaFleur providing a good balance with each other. I like the move by Green Bay and shows the new head coach is not tied to the best friends network.
To me, this move signifies LaFleur being able to come out of his comfort zone. Hackett is not part of his coaching networking group. He didn’t work with Sean McVay or Kyle Shanahan. Rather, he worked with Doug Marrone, current coach of Jacksonville. That’s great. What the two can do together is combined their ideas together to meld an offense that could be spectacular. From all you read from Hackett today and LaFleur last week is they’re both innovative, creative minds which should fire up Aaron Rodgers.
For those who will say ‘Well these guys coached the Titans and Jaguars last season,’ let me be the first to tell you that you’re a fucking idiot. I ranted about this on our Daily Tap podcast, but it bears repeating. You have to go beyond the last job and the team. Do a little research and learn something. If you did that, the findings are Hackett’s best quarterback he worked with was Kyle Orton, Jacksonville was a top 10 offense last season under him which led to some head coaching considerations and he turned Ryan Nassib into a fourth-round pick at Syracuse. All of those things stack up to a good coach.
If you’re not excited for the Packers offense next season, you have a dump in your pants. Chicago and Minnesota had their chances, and now, it’s time to go back to the top.
