It’s Hard To Find Remorse For O.J. Mayo

I’m sure you will find me to be a dick with this title. That’s fine. With the Monday I had, I can be called anything on this Tuesday morning. O.J. Mayo opened up to Sports Illustrated about being suspended by the league until 2018 and his time with Milwaukee Bucks. Mayo said many nice things about Bucks and wanted to return with the relationship he had with the team all together yet I find myself not wanting to cheer this guy on. Am I a bad guy here?
Mayo did his best John Salmons impressions where he received a follow up contract from Bucks and mailed it the fuck in. I understand he feels bad that he let the team down and called himself out by saying he’s ‘subpar.’ Yet that doesn’t excuse the fact he was awful for the team on the court. Mayo did nothing to help this ball team a few years back, and now, he wants to give the puppy eyes whilst two years out before playing basketball again professionally. Is this guy serious? He’s owning up to his mistakes which is good, but honestly, why now?
Here’s where my criticism of Mayo may fall short, the players loved him. He became a veteran leader among young guys like Giannis and Jabari, and Mayo paved the way for those guys. He also had a strong working relationship with Jason Kidd. Even though Mayo did nothing spectacular on the court, he was still a great clubhouse guy. Sadly for him, I do not see a Bucks reunion for him when he’s finally back in the league at Age 31. If the former third-overall-pick was smart, he would play in China or somewhere in Europe to keep his game where it needs to be.
We’ll see what happens with him during his two-year suspension from the league.
Charlie.
