Honey Badger Chooses Houston, not Green Bay

Sports talk radio will probably mention at great length about how the Green Bay Packers missed out on Tryann Matheiu aka the Honey Badger. He’s a 25-year-old safety who it only took one year seven million dollars to make it happen. It’s pretty simple, Matheiu choose where he wanted to play football in the fall, and it wasn’t exactly about the team. He wanted to go a winner and place where the playoffs would be a reality. Houston is one of the better young teams with Deshaun Watson, Nuke Hopkins, JJ Watt and now two secondary pieces with Aaron Colvin from Jacksonville and now Matheiu. Packers have to continue their scramble to find secondary talent.
Packers fans will react like we should expect where they expect every player to want to play for Green Bay. That’s not in fact a reality. Honey Badger would have been a star of the defense, but compare what you could have in Houston versus Green Bay? I would much rather live in Houston which is the third largest city in America, no state income taxes and be closer to home. Let’s also take that into consideration. Matheiu is from New Orleans which is about two hours away from Houston. There has to be some allure playing that close to home especially since the Honey Badger is very loyal to the Bayou.
Green Bay will find secondary talent. It’s not going to be greatest talent in the world, but they’re going to get a player or two. There’s no way they’ll trot out a secondary of Kevin King and a 14th pick overall with some other scrubs. People are going to be disappointed regardless of whom comes to town unless Green Bay gets some unbelievable deal for a player.
Go Pack Go and glad the Honey Badger isn’t in the NFC.
Charlie.
