How Do Ohio State Fans Cheer For Their Team?

The Ohio State story wrapped up yesterday in the most bizarre way possible. It’s apparent that Urban Meyer knew everything about this story, and the board of trustees did it in their power to cover it up. Ohio State did not say ‘Courtney Smith’ in the press conference, rather ‘Buckeye Nation’ among other buzzwords. Ohio State doesn’t want you to read the fine print and see that the investigation is a sham. Meyer is suspended for three games, but he can coach during the week with the team. It’s all gross. My question is if you’re a fan of the Buckeyes football, can you be one at this moment or do you take the year off?
I do not have a huge affinity to college football. I like Wisconsin, which bothers some of my Marquette friends, but that’s probably a mid-tier admiration. They’re way down on the list of teams I would like to see win a championship. College football fans are the closet thing America has to the English Premier League faithful in Europe. They’re crazy, wildly passionate and unwilling to see when things are wrong. Many Ohio State fans called this a conspiracy and treat Meyer like he’s a deity because he wins football games. At some point, you have to ask yourself how can I support this team and the head coach?
The way to do it is to cheer for the players and only the players with the hope that this is Meyer’s last year at the university. It’s easier to cheer for the players and not the coaches, just look at Varsity Blues. If the players did something heinous, this becomes much harder. That’s probably the way in, and you hope these kids understand that Meyer is a villian. They probably will not, but he’s a terrible human being.
