Last night, we had a good TV night because you had your usual Sunday shows like The Leftovers, Silicon Valley and the premiere of Twin Peaks, Celtics-Cavs and Billboard Music Awards. I put the last two in heavy rotation early in the night. As they’re awarding the ‘best social artist,’ the winner is BTS, an Asian boy band, that the crow goes WILD for. Mind you, I stay hip to the trends, and I have no idea who BTS is.

They could be the next big thing in music. K Pop is massive in Los Angeles and the surrounding areas, yet it really hasn’t permeated the Midwest besides Gangnam Style by PSY which was a massive hit in 2012. PSY will be known like Macarena and other dance crazes that were one-hit wonders. Could this be the start of BTS hitting the Top 40 airwaves? I’m not sure. They put out a song earlier this year titled “Spring Day” that did huge numbers on YouTube plus all of the Korean charts yet zero American noise. If you’re curious, the aforementioned song has over 80 million YouTube plays with 64k comments… Absurd numbers.

Maybe these guys will end up being the real deal, and they’re the next One Direction. Or maybe they have one hit like PSY and we don’t hear about again unless we’re jamming to K Pop.
